A key factor that determines the plant's
environmental acceptability is the type of transport used. Transport
after all involves the delivery of some 500,000 tons of garbage
per year and the removal of the residuals
remaining after incineration.
EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ aimed to ensure that shipping garbage should be just as environmentally compatible as the plant itself. For this reason, EVN ships 90% of the garbage and almost all residuals from incineration by rail. The remaining 10% is waste from the immediate vicinity which is collected locally by truck and tipped directly from the garbage truck into the bunker through a system of air locks specially designed to prevent obnoxious smells from escaping. The garbage delivered by rail is transported in special containers.
