Combined-cycle energy generation

Benefits of combining waste incineration with power generation

The thermal waste utilisation plant at Zwentendorf/Dürnrohr has a positive impact on the quality of the air in the Tullnerfeld: because it reduces the use of primary energy sources at the Dürnrohr power station and replaces coal in the households of Zwentendorf; it also supplies the bioethanol plant at Pischelsdorf with the necessary process steam, all from incinerating waste at the thermal waste utilisation plant at Zwentendorf/Dürnrohr. Altogether this makes for a cut in regional emission levels.

Combining waste incineration with power generation offers a number of benefits:

>

tapping the energy in the waste in order to generate electricity; district heating and process steam

>

cutting coal and natural gas consumption at the Dürnrohr power station: 100,000 tons of coal and 10 million cubic metres of natural gas can be saved per year

>

reducing emission

>

improving the air quality in the region

>

curbing the greenhouse effect

>

benefiting from economic synergy effects
