Citizens board of the
market town of Zwentendorf

Formed on 5 December 1997, the citizens board draws its members from a wide spectrum of the population, including town councillors, representatives of the local government, the community physician, members of the Tullnerfeld Initiative and concerned citizens.

It is a non-partisan body which is charged solely with advocating the interests of the citizens. The population is kept informed of the project in a number of events. The board was included in the preparation of the environmental impact statement and a party of legal standing in the environmental impact analysis. The board saw its duty in requesting and obtaining detailed project information from EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ and in passing on the concerns and requests of the population to EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ.

The citizens board continued to be active throughout the construction phase. On 27 June 2002, it invited concerned citizens from Zwentendorf itself and from the adjoining communities of Atzenbrugg, Langenrohr, Michelhausen, Sitzenberg-Reidling, Traismauer, Kirchberg, Königsbrunn and Grafenwörth to a tour of the site, offering an opportunity once again to discuss and abate fears and worries with regard to plant operation, such as waste gas, transport volumes, etc.
