EVN Abfallverwertung
know-how

At Zwentendorf in Lower Austria, EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ has planned and built Europe’s most advanced thermal waste utilisation plant, which, since going on stream on 1 January 2004, has been working at its full capacity. Starting in 2007, the facility was enlarged from its original capacity of 300,000 to some 500,000 metric tons per year, which, the enlargement now completed, has made it Austria’s largest thermal waste processing plant and one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

For a waste disposal system that makes the best ecological use of a resource by incinerating the garbage and exploiting the resultant energy to generate electricity and district heating, interacting with the nearby caloric power plant of Dürnrohr provides for a win-win situation, with the added bonuses of emission reductions both in-plant and from the delivery of 90% of the garbage by train – all this goes to show that EVN has achieved a pioneering model in environmental engineering that is unique world-wide.

EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ offers this know-how in project design and handling, in constructing and operating the plant to future partners on a world-wide scale.

As a one-stop provider, EVN plans, builds, finances and operates plants. Requirements vary depending on the site of the project, which calls for customised solutions specifically tailored to the needs of each customer. To achieve this, you need a partner who has the requisite flexibility and full understanding of the local situation. EVN is specialised in delivering, whether it is turnkey plants or the reconstruction, extension and optimation of existing plants.

Next to the engineering know-how, it is the project organisation models that are a key factor. Here again, EVN delivers a whole range of options: from acting as general contractor for the design and construction of a plant, to the DBO model which comprises designing, building and operating the plant, and the BOT model which includes managing the financing side.
