Abfallverwertung Niederösterreich Ges.m.b.H (AVN) is a fully owned subsidiary of EVN AG, charged within that multi-utility group with constructing the central thermal waste utilisation plant in Lower Austria. AVN was established in 1994, as a co-operative venture of the State of Lower Austria and EVN AG, with a view to solving the problem of what to do with untreated garbage..

Based on its corporate history and growth, AVN perceives itself as a Lower Austrian company. Nevertheless it offers its know-how to all of Austria and also beyond the country's borders.

The object of AVN as a business is to develop processes, and to construct and operate plants to treat and dispose of garbage while simultaneously converting waste to energy, based on the state of the art in the field.

With this object in view, AVN is currently constructing one of Europe's most modern thermal waste utilisation plants, located at Zwentendorf in Lower Austria.
