MüllvWaste incineration for a clean future. Clean drinking water and clean air, a healthy and liveable environment for our children. That’s what EVN Abfallverwertung Niederösterreich is committed to.

Thermal waste utilisation burns off the pollutants in the garbage and generates energy from waste. It supplies 170,000 households with electricity from waste, provides two thirds of the Lower Austrian capital of St. Pölten with district heating from this “renewable” source of energy and delivers process steam to the Agrana bioethanol plant at Pischelsdorf.

The energy extracted from 500,000 metric tons of waste enables the Dürnrohr power plant to reduce its fuel consumption by 100,000 metric tons of coal and 10 million cubic metres of natural gas a year – saving on fossil fuels, going easy on non-renewable resources and mitigating the glasshouse effect.

All this is a major contribution to the goal of passing on to our children a healthy environment.

As a visible mark of this commitment, the children of the creative group at the Zwentendorf elementary school, cooperating with EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ, created a work of art for the lobby of the plant.

The work came into being at 2 pm on Tuesday, 8 June 2010. Guided by artist Günter Fischer (www.guenterfischer.at), 15 children aged 7–10 set about a “jolly performance orgy of colours” to produce a painting of six square metres in size which will welcome visitors to the lobby of the waste incinerator.
