Construction works for Line 3
EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ
August 2009

After two years of work, construction and assembly works have progressed considerably: the plant looks almost finished and its startup including the first fire on the grate is scheduled for late November 2009. In its appearance, the plant has gained something in both width and length by the addition of the new Line 3 and the new initial bunker, and its entrance area has been shifted slightly to the northwest. The new line was constructed in parallel with the two existing ones. Like those it consists of a grate, boiler and three-stage flue gas cleaning plant made up of a dry stage (fabric filter), a two-stage scrubber (acid and gypsum scrubbers) and a DeNOx plant (catalyst).

A new feature is the so-called “initial bunker” which is intended to take up the additional garbage deliveries. It stands out as an annexe to the south of the plant bridging the automated container crane unloading system painted in red. The initial bunker comprises another three tipping stations and a bulk garbage shredder. The waste tipped into the new initial bunker is then transported by a travelling crane to the existing bunker.

Currently, boiler assembly is about to be completed. The flue gas cleaning system is scheduled to be finished in late September. The top part of the SO2 scrubber, newly constructed in Taiwan, was installed in late June. “Cold startup” – which involves checking the controls and instruments and the direction of rotation of the engines, pressure tests, etc. – has already begun. As to the construction works, the entrance hall is shortly to be finished. The outdoor facilities are set to be completed by the end of 2009. Startup with garbage – the first time waste is incinerated on the grate – is planned for the end of November 2009.
